Chicken in Spinach Curry | Palak ka saag with chicken
Chicken in Spinach Curry is one of my families favourite and healthiest recipe. Sometimes you wonder, how to make a green leafy vegetable taste different, then this is a recipe you must try. I prepare this oil-free, you can add a little bit of oil. But I must say, without oil too it tastes very delicious.
It’s a semi dry gravy. You can enjoy it with roti, paratha with side dishes like raita and salad. So, let’s get started.
Ingredients:
- 1 Kg Chicken breasts, Medium cut
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper powder
- 2.5 teaspoon Red chili powder
- 2.5 teaspoon Lemon juice
- 2.5 teaspoon Green chili paste
- 500 grams Spinach, roughly chopped
- 5 Onion, sliced
- 4 teaspoon Ginger garlic paste
- 2.5 teaspoon Ajwain (Carom seeds)
- 4.5 Cardamom Powder (Elaichi)
- 10 Cloves (Laung)
- Salt to taste
- Oil Accordingly
- 1.5 teaspoon Red chilli powder ,
- 2.5 teaspoon Lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Chaat Masala Powder
- 2 teaspoon Fresh cream, to garnish
- Salt, to taste
How to make Chicken in Spinach Curry Recipe – Palak ka saag with chicken
- Wash the chicken pieces and cut into small to medium sized pieces.
- In a bowl, add chicken pieces with lemon juice, green chili paste, salt, pepper, and red chili powder. Mix everything properly, cover and refrigerate for an hour or overnight.
- Blanch the spinach in a pressure cooker or hot boiling water and keep it under cold water. Let it cool.
- Once the spinach gets cold, grind and make a smooth paste. Keep it aside.
- In a wok, dry roast shahi jeera, cloves for about 10 seconds.
- Add onions and cook till they become soft and translucent by adding water and steaming it. Once they are soft add the ginger garlic paste and let it cook for about 2 to 3 minutes so that the raw smell of the paste goes away.
- After 2 to 3 minutes, add in the tomatoes and the marinated chicken with masala. Let it cook for about a minute or two.

- Add cardamom powder, red chili powder(depending on the spiciness you need) and salt to taste. Mix it well, cover the pan and allow the chicken to cook completely.
- Once the chicken is cooked, add the spinach puree and mix everything. Let it cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Add lemon juice on top of it, mix it and serve hot.
